Hepatitis B infection in multitransfused thalassaemics.

چکیده
The risk of HBV infection by blood transfusion remains moderate due to the prevalence of HBV carriers in the general population of Peninsular Malaysia ranging from 3 to 6%. 23% of multitransfused thalassaemics showed HbsAg and 31% have been exposed to HBV infection. I Hepatitis B vaccination should be carried out at the start of blood transfusion in all thalassaeI mics destined to be transfusion dependent following screening for HBV markers.

Hepatitis G virus in multitransfused thalassaemics from India.
Hepatitis G virus (HGV)/GB virus-C (GBV-C) has been identified as a blood-borne agent with disputed pathogenicity. This virus belongs to the flaviviridae with a distant relationship to hepatitis C virus (HCV). Genetically divergent HGV isolates have been reported from different parts of the world. This study describes the prevalence of HGV in multitransfused thalassaemic children in India and g...
متن کاملHIV-HCV Co-Infection among Multitransfused Thalassemic Individuals-A Review
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Hepatitis B and C virus (HBV and HCV) are three most common chronic viral pathogens among multitransfused thalassemic major individuals. HCV and HIV consist of a positive single stranded RNA genome, whereas HBV is a partially double stranded DNA virus. These viruses have similar routes of transmission, namely through blood and blood products, sharing of ne...
متن کاملHepatitis B or non-A, non-B virus infection in multitransfused thalassaemic patients.
We undertook a four year study of 128 thalassaemic patients who had undergone several transfusions, to determine the incidence of hepatitis B virus markers and the activities of transaminases in their sera each month. The results showed that the possibility of these patients contracting hepatitis B virus infection is still high, although on only one occasion was a transient antigenaemia found, ...
متن کاملTransfusion Transmitted Hepatitis: Where Do We Stand Now? A One Center Study in Upper Egypt
BACKGROUND Despite progress made in the prevention of transfusion-transmitted infections (TTI) over the last few years, they continue to be a problem in many parts of the world, particularly in multitransfused patients. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and to evaluate the screening and vaccination program amon...
متن کاملCommon transfusion-transmitted infectious agents among thalassaemic children in Bangladesh.
Transfusion-dependent children are more prone to acquiring various transfusion-transmitted infections (TTIs), such as hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV), HIV, and others. Since the magnitude of these infections among thalassaemic children in Bangladesh is not well-known, this study was conducted to assess the prevalence of TTIs among them (who received more than three blood transfusions) comp...
